Adulting

When did childish images fade Innocence lost while memories made Time has stolen candy coated dreams And traded them for get-rich-quick schemes Grow a few feet and at what inch, Does our confidence begin to flinch? Ears grow larger but we listen less, To the sounds of the earth and more to the mess. In the mirror, no longer see A princess or a hero, I just see me. In our youth, we knew the meaning of grass The trees, and the mud all sang in tune, Alas! we were never home by noon. Adventure and romance once admired, Until responsibilities and bills were acquired Though in our growth, we learned a lot Much was gained, however, much was lost Each day that passes reminds me, we can never go back To the memories of mudded knees and mid-day snacks Is it so wrong to want to be this young? To wish for joy without getting stung? I want to go back to when life was simpler and kind When it was easier to achieve an enormous heart a...

Vertical in Sideways Rain

Cross hatched and hitting my body Tic Tac To No one’s winning It tastes, as it’s hitting my lips and kissing my eyes Like freedom of worship, r enewal of my mind Evidence of something greater than my own self Changes the colored film to gray Soothes the cold bitter scenes of the romance Washes the blood of war away Heals the scars from my broken windows Reveals what’s under the dirt on my skin Cleanses all iniquities I stand vertical in sideways rain, Against the winds, against the grain Surrounded by tears that overflow rivers Earth's beauty gains with the passing of each storm Clouds are her pillows and sun is her love. Cross hatched and hitting my body Tic Tac To A battle on my skin No one wins

Crush to Crumb

Love that is most painful Love; freezing while your blanket of warmth is on another’s back Love; stealing glances while being invisible Love, Unreciprocated Undefined, Unmatched, Unwound, The worst kind of love that I have found. Is there such a thing? A bad kind of love? Seems there are songs written about it. Though it’s not the kind from above. Where does it come from? Is it love at all? Shrinking down to just a crumb, Kneeling down to just a crawl. I find out the meaning of everything this is…… A crush no doubt! But I am not his…….. You can probably guess the motive for this poem. A sad state of events indeed. Though later, I realized it was never love that was felt. It was something more shallow and fleeting.

Late night thoughts

You and the Vagabond There’s a point at which we have to decide if we like eachother enough that we don’t want to let go. That is when you call it a relationship. You see, until then, it’s all about discovery; getting to know the ways of the other person’s world and understanding the things which make them a part of yours. So how do you approach this person? What do you say to them? How will you know when it’s the right time? How do you know if they see you as though they’re looking into their future? How do you know if your face matches their smile? How do you know if they want to stay up late, watch the stars and dream about the oceans of contingency? The answer is, you don’t. You will never know. Can I see your thoughts? Like lines of a poem waving in the air above your handsome head? Can I find your words for you? And write them on my forehead so I don’t forget them? Make my eyes a journal. Draw in them, your castles in the air. I seek truth in your paintings....

Where are you looking?

“It is important to live in the now. It is also important to look to the future. There are points in time, where we are meant to focus more on one or the other, however, neither of them is a definite point of view.” If you are only focused on either looking to the future, dwelling in the past or living in the present, you will miss the wisdom that comes from the balance of all three. If you could see yourself in the future, wouldn’t it change the choices that you make in the present? If you could go back in time and fix your mistakes, how would you ever learn? We must not live life worrying about this day or that day, or how much time we have. Rather live as though you have a world ahead of you and a life behind you. Live in such a way that you can wear your past on your face and feel no shame. When you stand, which way do your feet point? They are in front of you. And what side of your body are your eyes located? On the front of you. Where is your nose? On the front of you!...

Cravings Get the Best of Me

Cravings get the best of me Feel like it’s arresting me Tryna stay healthy Bu t my body keeps rejecting me Searching for that fill Of holes in heart and will To stay on track No looking back Moving forward up a hill The harder that it gets While struggling with my mind The doubt in my heart Takes up all my time Grace is freely given It’s heavy on the heart A secret I’ve kept hidden Keeps me hiding in the dark Darkness takes its toll As light begins to fade Trapped in a stronghold Of sinful misbehave Redemption comes to light I stay on His good side Then temptation creeps Into my body and my mind Repeated giving in To the same old sin Hopping on and off Of the happy hope wagon I finally come around I see what this all means Without the sinful nature I wouldn’t need His peace B ring it to me LORD Fill up my empty space ...

"Singing in the Rain"

I lept around, skipping on the cliffs. Lush, green, woods and mountains all around. Blissfully existing in my own small corner of the world. A place where my voice could rise over the mountains and I was filled with the Spirit of God. I lay in the greens and blended with the face of the hillside. Laying there, praying praises and celebrating life. No neighbor could hush the belting of my soul. Singing boldly, in reckless abandon, I strummed my guitar. I could hear children playing in the distance and laughter filling the canyons below. I hoisted myself up into an oak tree and rested on the branches still playing, as the rain so mellow, blanketed the sky above and the hairlike grass below. It fell upon my cheek like tears of joy. Seemingly, washing away all the pain from before. Rain drops fell to my lips so sweet, not the water itself, but the feeling upon my skin..... Moistening my lips for more singing and shouting to the clouds. This, this is where my soul still live...
